Laboratory Fume Cabinets

Working with chemicals and chemical compounds provide many safety challenges. Chemicals may be unstable, acidic, corrosive, toxic and I or flammable. Fume Cabinets and Hoods are very effective at reducing the risk to end-users especially when it comes to inhalation of toxic vapours. However, the introduction of heat sources such as Bunsen Burners increase the fire risks.

Fume Cabinets are not typically designed with fire protection in mind. Furthermore, if a fire was to occur within a Fume Cabinet, the results could be disastrous. Potential threats could be:-

•  Loss of Human Lives

•  Loss of lntellectual Property

•  Loss of ability to conduct experiments

•  Spread of fire to chemica! stores, where potential damage could be much higher

Protecting Fume Cabinets from  fires  provides many challenges such as:-

•  Extraction flares can sweep heat away quickly, delaying the detection of a fire

•  The need to use heat services make some detectors unusable

•  Fumes can trigger false discharges

•  Confined I Limited Space

Traditional water-based Sprinkler System are not appropriate as water can induce reactions with some chemica! components. Furthermore, water can  be more damaging to the surrounding environment than the fire itself. EQUIPRO offers the ultimata fire protection system for Fume Cabinets. EQUIPRO Systems utilize our proprietary FIRE DETECTION TUBING and provides a truly independent, reliable, fully automated 24/7 protection against fire threats.

How does Equipro Manage This?

Equipro Detection Tubing reacts to heat. It does not require any electrical power to work.

EQUIPRO can successfully handle a multitude of fire hazards. EQUIPRO targets individual ignition sources so as to extinguish fires from at the point. In doing so, EQUIPRO Systems are quicker to react than conventional systems. More importantly by targeting ignition sources, EQUIPRO extinguishes fires before they have a chance to escalate and become uncontrollable. This in turn reduces the damaging effects of a fire and does not allow it to spread. It is also more cost effective as it typically requires far less fire extinguishing agent to be used.

The simple nature of the Detection Tubing means the systems are easy to install and maintain. As the EQUIPRO systems targets the source of the fire, they require less extinguishing agent and hence, they are more cost-effective.

Secondary Action Release System (SAR)

EQUIPRO Secondary Action Release (SAR) System utilizes EQUIPRO proprietary Fire Detection Tubing as a means of automatically detecting fires. As the pressure in the tubing drops, It initiates the valve to open and release the fire extinguishing agent through a conventional nozzle via either brass or stainless steel tubes.
